Tuesday, 13th June 2017 Some more photos from Berlin There was lots to see walking around near our apartment. Sadly we were limited to using our phones as cameras, but still managed to capture a few good shots. The view from our apartment. (In the NSW Southern Highlands the average space between parked cars is about half a vehicle length, in Berlin it's more like 30cm, seriously.) Along the way to our nearby supermarket. Eleanor's favourite place in all of Germany, just across the road from our apartment. Another shot of the Turkish markets. The actual currywurst long gone, someone was more than happy to polish off the remaining pomme frites, drenched as they were in ketchup, mayonnaise and curry powder. I have a strong dislike for graffiti that interferes with the art of others, but this one was simultaneously terrible vandalism (to what I assume was an already damaged statue), which also managed to put a smile on my face. Stumbling across Stolpersteine plaques all too regularly in the streets is both confronting and depressing, but what a commendable project! I found that it communicated the extent of the tragedy far more powerfully than any holocaust memorial I have seen. With the sad reality of the stumbling stones below us, it was a relief to find some unintended silliness above us. A little sight seeing on the tourist trail. Although, we look better without Goldelse on the Victory Column photo-bombing us.
